Anthony is seeing a lot of progress more quickly than many anticipated after starting his rehab specialized for traumatic brain injury (TBI). I think this is a testament to his character and determination. The day before we left San Diego he literally could not sit up on his own, now he is walking!
A day feels like a week here and a week feels like a month. There is so much involved in every day. This past week was challenging for me personally with me and kids getting sick and needing see doctors on top of responsibilities for Anthony. All in all though, lots of good momentum forward like me becoming certified to walk with Anthony and actually able to take him in the car so he can spend time outside of the hospital on the weekends.
This past week Anthony is now walking everywhere as long as I am with him to support him. His overall form with many movements especially walking is much better. He even got on a pilates reformer machine and was practicing jumping movements. We also had a big round table meeting with all of his doctors and good news is they are not anticipating needing to send him home with a wheel chair which is crazy for me to fathom even right now.
Overall lots of good momentum and progress. Continuously having challenges adjusting to normal life activities even with this good progress. Complete lack of mobility on his own still haunts him. He will be a high risk for seizures for the rest of his life and with that comes of lifestyle adjustments like being on medication for the rest of his life and not being able to drink alcohol, but that is somewhat small compared to the fact that we were worried about him even being able to walk again and now that looks very promising.
The best way I can describe it is that such small progress feels so big, and things seem so hopeful, and we feel like we are on the road to success, but then a moment happens, one small moment, like Anthony struggling to get his feet in the car, and all those big, good feelings, start to feel so small...
Good days and bad days are here and will be for quite a while. Thank you to everyone who has shown us so much support and sending us thoughts and love.
